Cheap Travel Insurance: How the Web Has Made it Easy to Find Great Deals

The internet has changed the world in which we live. Things that were never before possible are now possible thanks to the World Wide Web. The world is much smaller, and you can visit with and gaze upon loved ones even though they are thousands of miles away. You can shop, work, date and play games all from the comfort of your own home. What does this have to do with travel insurance? Not only has the web brought all of these wonderful activities into our homes, it has also made it easier than ever before to find great deals on travel insurance.

One of the ways that the internet has made it easier than ever before to find great deals is that there are more companies to choose from online. Travel insurance companies who can’t afford to or don’t want to sink money into expensive ad campaigns can attract customers online with a website. These are companies that you would never have known about if you didn’t find them online. You can also contact companies that are not located in your area when you hunt for deals online.

All of this has led to increased competition between travel insurance companies. And we all know what competition does. It drives prices down. Competing companies are always trying to capture the interest of their competitor’s customers with a better bargain. Competitive marketing is great for consumers.

There are also many benefits of browsing online for insurance. Instead of shopping for insurance conventionally which meant numerous phone calls and meeting with a travel or insurance agent, shopping online allows you to browse from the comfort of your own home. There are no business hours to dance around, and all of the information you need is at your fingertips.

Having everything in front of you allows you to easily compare travel insurance deals. If you want to investigate coverage options or different packages, all you have to do is point and click. This is much preferable to reading all of the fine print contained in black and white paper copies. Many sites even have FAQs sections that will answer many of your questions without you having to actually ask them.

After you have found the perfect policy, you can even purchase your travel insurance online. This eliminates the middle man’s percentage and passes the savings right along to you. Many companies who sell insurance online have little overhead costs as well. When a company does not have to worry about paying for a fancy office building and utilities, they can sell policies much cheaper than their brick and mortar competitors. Online companies can also operate for less money as they don’t need as large of a staff. When it comes time to purchase travel insurance, you should definitely shop for deals online. Even if you want to purchase a policy from your agent, finding travel insurance deals online can give you some leverage when it comes time to negotiate price.

Where Can I Buy Travel Insurance?

So you have decided to plan a holiday and you are all excited about your coming holiday away from everything. Of course before you go you definitely need to make sure that you purchase some good travel insurance to keep you covered. The big question may be, where can I buy travel insurance? Well, there are actually a couple different options that are available. Here is a look at the options you have when you need to know where you can purchase quality travel insurance to keep you protected on your holiday.

Purchase from a Travel Agent

One place where you can purchase your travel insurance is through a travel agent. More than likely you have some travel agents in your area and most will be able to offer you the travel insurance that you need. Just make sure that the agent is licensed to actually sell this type of insurance. It is also a good idea to make sure that they are informed about your destination and what you will need from this type of insurance on your trip. Usually travel agents deal with a couple of different companies so you should have several choices available to you. Ask for their recommendation if you decide to purchase your travel insurance through a travel agent.

Purchase from the Supplier

Another place that you can purchase the travel insurance that you need is through the supplier of your holiday. If you are going on a tour or a cruise, often the operator for the tour or the line offering the cruise will offer the option to purchase travel insurance. If you decide to go this route you need to understand that plans offered by travel suppliers usually don’t offer as much and they are probably self insured. So, if you have a large claim, it could be a bit shaky for you. It is not always the best idea to purchase this type of insurance from a travel supplier if you want to make sure that you have the best travel coverage.

Purchase Online

Last of all, you can also purchase travel insurance online, which is actually probably your best option. Just like other types of insurance, it is really easy to get this type of insurance on the web. There are several different companies out there that provide this type of cover to those going on a holiday. You can check with travel sites on the web or you can look directly at insurance sites to see what is available.

Often you can even find comparison sites for travel insurance that will allow you to compare quotes from several companies, helping you to find the best cover and the best possible deal. While purchasing online is a top option, you should make sure that you carefully read the fine print so you know what will be covered before you take out an insurance policy on the web. This way you make sure to get the best protection you need for your holiday.

How Many Excesses Does It Take To Make A Travel Insurance Policy?

travel insurance
No one likes to think that bad things will happen while you’re on holiday, but it becomes a reality for lots of travelers every year.

The right travel insurance policy can reduce the impact that injuries, illnesses, delays and lost property have on your precious holiday time. Finding the right travel insurance policy, unfortunately, is not as easy as ticking off the box next to “Do you want travel insurance?” at the travel agent. In fact, that could be the most expensive cover with the least benefits. According to Direct Line insurance, buying your travel insurance through your travel agent could cost you up to five times as much as you’d pay if you take the time to research and buy your own travel insurance policy.

Doing that requires a little knowledge beforehand though. It’s important to understand the types of medical situations that are typically covered by a holiday travel plan, and which tricks to watch out for that could leave you without the cover when you need it most. Here’s a quick guide to what to watch for when you’re comparing holiday travel insurance.

1. Watch the excess.

Excess is the amount that you must pay before your travel insurance kicks in and picks up the remainder of the cost. On the typical travel insurance policy, there’s an excess of £50 which is often counted against each incident. A few count an overall excess – they might require that you pay the first £150 of all insurable expenses on the trip no matter how many incidents are involved. This can be a vital difference. If, for instance, you stumble and fall, breaking a leg – and your expensive digital camera, along with your eyeglasses – some insurers may count that as three separate incidents, and charge you an excess for each of them, although they all stemmed from the same incident.

Solution: Consider getting a policy with an overall excess.

2. Watch the cover.

Read through the policy carefully so that you can be sure that the most important items are covered. Many policies don’t cover you for the most common losses and injuries while you’re on holiday. For instance, nearly all policies exclude injuries that happen while engaging in “winter sports”.

Solution: If you’re going on a skiing holiday, go over the policy, and if necessary, take out specific “winter sports cover” because it’s better to be safe than sorry.

3. Cover your baggage.

Your baggage should be insured for at least £1,500, but keep in mind that many items you commonly carry may not be covered. It’s typical for baggage insurance to exclude cover for sunglasses, mobile phones, cameras, watches, baby buggies and other expensive pieces of equipment. It’s also typical for insurers to set an upper limit for how much they’ll pay toward the loss of any one item. If your upper limit is £75 and you lose your £800 laptop, you’ll be out of luck.

Solution: Look at getting separate cover for any expensive items that you plan to take with you.

4. Cover your pre-existing conditions.

If you have pre-existing medical conditions that flare up while you’re abroad, you may find yourself responsible for all expenses related to them. Pre-existing conditions are also the most common reason for travel insurers to reject your policy. If you have a condition like angina or high blood pressure, a history of heart problems or diabetes, you might be wise to look into travel cover that takes those conditions into account and will cover you regardless. You may pay a bit extra for the premium and have a higher excess, but the peace of mind will be worth it.

Top Tips For Getting The Best Travel Insurance For Your Needs

travel insurance
Let’s face it; we have all encountered some sort of problem or two while traveling either for business or with the family on vacation. That is where travel insurance can come in handy. Many people are not aware that they have the option to buy travel insurance to help cover possible medical or hospital expenses while traveling away from home.

If you get sick while away, you can expect to possibly end up losing money on your prepaid accommodations if you end up spending a night or two in the hospital. Many people plan their vacation now with package deals where they pay one price and their entire itinerary is planned for them. If this is how you have planned your trip and then you end up sick, chances are that you will lose out on the activities that were lined up for you with no chance of a refund. That makes your entire trip very costly as well as uneventful.

Here are some of the top tips for getting the best travel insurance for your needs:

You should try and avoid getting your travel insurance through your travel agent as you can expect to pay up to 66% more than if you bought it Online. All you need to do is a bit of searching in order to find cover that suits your needs the best. Travel agents that offer travel insurance might not have coverage to back themselves in the event that their business goes under or bankrupt. That will still leave you in the same boat you were in, in the first place. Be sure to stick with companies that have a strong history in this area.

If you decide to go with an Online company then be sure to check out their credentials. You want to make sure that they are legit and offer more than one plan. You want to look at different levels of coverage to best pick out what meets your specific needs. There are some items that should always be included in every policy such as: Unlimited Overseas Emergency Medical Assistance, Personal Liability, Unlimited Overseas Dental, Hospital and Medical Expenses and Unlimited Lost Deposits and Cancellation Fees.

Another important tip is to always be wise and check the details of each policy offered. Since there are many different levels of coverage, you want to check which ones will cover pre-existing conditions if you or a family member has any. Traveling with such conditions can be scary when it comes to medical coverage so this would be some piece of mind to let you enjoy your vacation.

Traveling should be a fun experience and travel insurance helps to make sure that you do not incur unexpected financial burdens while away from home. Just be careful and check out each company you are considering that offers travel insurance. Make a list of what items you want to have coverage for and use that list to help you choose the plan that is right for you.
